The Blue Devils for a Greener Tomorrow

Duke University Greening Initiative (DUGI) and Environmental Alliance (EA) are graduate and undergraduate student organizations working together to further integrate environmental stewardship into every facet of life at Duke University.

One of our top priorities is to reduce Duke's greenhouse gas emissions - pollutants that cause global warming. We do to this through campaigns, research projects, and outreach. Our actions are influencing Duke administrators to identify and implement greenhouse gas reduction measures. Student interest and research brought biodiesel-powered buses to campus, wind power purchases at two schools, an extensive cost-effectiveness study of greenhouse gas reduction strategies, an annual dorm versus dorm energy reduction competition, and more!

While we will continue to promote innovative greenhouse gas reduction strategies here at Duke, DUGI and EA are proud to join the Virtual March on Washington - a national endeavor urging the United States to take action on global warming. The threats that global warming pose to our economy, our environment, and our future are real. North Carolina is especially vulnerable to sea-level rise and increased hurricane intensity due to global warming. The United States has the opportunity to take decisive steps in reducing global warming pollution. Key among them is shifting from traditional fossil fuel energy to clean, renewable energy sources, such as wind and solar. Investing in renewable energy and energy efficiency will create jobs and lead us into a more sustainable future.

As students, our collective voice is a power tool for raising awareness and influencing political decisions. Uniting with others in this march, we raise one loud clear voice of concern to urge our leaders to address global warming now. Sign up for the march and make your voice heard too!
