Energy Action

Energy Action is a coalition of 25 leading student environmental and social justice organizations in the U.S. and Canada created to unify and support the student global warming and clean energy movement. Together, we have some of the most experienced campus organizers on the continent, a large and growing base of committed student leaders on over 1,500 college campuses and a plan to catalyze a larger and more effective movement on this critical issue.

We are marching because we believe global warming is a defining challenge of our generation. It encompasses many aspects of our lives, from the economy, to national security, environmental quality, and even our own personal safety and vulnerability to disease. But for some of us, global warming has seemed a distant and invisible threat. That has since changed. Hurricanes Katrina and Rita have demonstrated the raw power of natural disasters. Warmer ocean temperatures, shifting weather patterns, and higher sea levels caused by global warming undoubtedly added to the ferocity.

We need to do everything in our power to stabilize our climate and revolutionize our energy systems to prevent increasingly frequent and fiercer catastrophes, to create good jobs and a healthy economy, and to protect our way of life.

We're marching because it has become clear that the obstacles to aggressive federal action to stop global warming are not scientific, technological or even economic - they are political. We will not stop global warming with more research or better policy papers. We must confront the public, the media and our political leaders with the urgency of this threat and demonstrate massive public support for clean energy and a federal global warming policy.

We aren't only marching - we're taking action. The Campus Climate Challenge is our coalition's most ambitious campaign yet. The Challenge is a U.S. and Canada-wide, long-term initiative aimed at helping campuses dramatically cutting their global warming pollution and become energy independent. By consolidating campus climate initiatives into a unified structure, the Challenge will allow hundreds of campuses to share ideas and resources, network, and make change in ways never before possible.

Building a clean energy future is truly in our hands, but it will require the same kind of inspiration, perseverance and drive that previous generations tapped into to defeat Jim Crow in the South, put a man on the moon, and abolish apartheid in South Africa. How will our generation leave a mark in the history books? And will you be a leader on the front lines advocating and acting for change, or on the sidelines watching? We need your help - Join us.
